Downspout sizes

2×3 or 3×4? We'll Size It Right

A 3×4 downspout has twice the opening of a 2×3, so it moves more water from big roofs.

What Our Customers Say

Questions

Downspout FAQs

How much does it cost to install a downspout?

2×3 downspouts are $6.50 per foot and 3×4 are $7.00 per foot, plus any outlets or cleanouts. Jobs have a $450 minimum, so we fix every problem spot in one visit.

Can you add a downspout to an existing gutter?

Yes. We cut a new outlet into your gutter, seal it, and run a new downspout. It's a common fix for long runs and gutters that overflow near valleys.

Should I get 2×3 or 3×4 downspouts?

2×3 works for most 5-inch gutters on smaller roofs. 3×4 is better for 6-inch gutters, big or steep roofs, and lots with fir and pine needles.

What goes at the bottom of a downspout?

An elbow and a splash block or extension that carries water away from the house. If it feeds a buried drain line, we add a $75 cleanout so it can be cleared from the ground.

Is it easy to replace a downspout yourself?

One downspout on a one-story home can be a DIY job. See how to install a gutter downspout. Two-story heights, new outlets and resizing are best left to a crew.

My downspout is just loose or crushed. Do I need a new one?

Not always. Loose straps and bent sections are often a quick fix. See our gutter repair services.
