Gutter Installation and Replacement

Why the Roofline Decides the Gutter System

American Gutter Service installs and replaces seamless gutters for Beaverton homeowners. We are based in St. Helens and work in Beaverton as part of our Portland-metro service area. Our focus is gutters, downspouts, gutter guards, and the roof edge that supports them.

A gutter has to carry whatever the roof sends it. On a two-story house, the main roof, a garage roof, and a porch roof can each send a different amount of water to a different corner. A detached shed may need only a short run and one downspout. That is why the three Beaverton jobs below each have a different specification.

If your gutters are mostly sound, our gutter repair service may be enough. If they sag in several places, leak at many joints, or overflow even when clean, a full gutter replacement is usually the better value.

What we check before recommending a system
  • Roof area and pitch feeding each gutter run
  • Valleys and upper roofs that drain onto lower ones
  • Fascia and rafter tails the new gutter will be fastened to
  • Outlet and downspout locations that work with the walls, walkways, and landscaping
  • Discharge points that move water away from the foundation
  • Tree cover and the kind of debris that lands on the roof

6-Inch Gutters on a Two-Story Home Under Tall Trees

This two-story home has several roof levels and tall evergreens close by. The scope called for removing the old gutters and downspouts, inspecting the fascia and rafter tails, and installing 6-inch seamless gutters and 3×4 downspouts on hidden hangers. A covered patio section was not part of this job.

Installation Scope

What Your Gutter Installation Includes

Your estimate lists only the work your home needs. A full replacement usually covers these steps.

01

Removal and Haul-Away

The old gutters and downspouts come down, and we take them off the property.

02

Fascia and Rafter-Tail Check

With the old system off, we check the wood it was fastened to. If a board is soft or damaged, we show you and explain the repair before new gutter covers it.

03

Seamless Runs Formed at Your Home

Each run is formed to length on site, so straight sections have no joints. Corners, outlets, and end caps are still connections, and each one is sealed.

What seamless gutters are →
04

Hidden Hangers and Steady Pitch

Hangers sit inside the gutter and fasten with screws, so nothing is driven through the face. Each run slopes toward its outlet so water does not sit in the trough.

05

Outlets and Downspouts

Outlets go where each run can drain well, and downspouts are sized for the roof area above them.

Flow Check and Cleanup

We check water flow, connections, and discharge, clean up the work area, and walk the finished system with you.

Sizing Gutters and Downspouts

5-Inch or 6-Inch Gutters?

The right size depends on how much water reaches each run and how quickly it can leave. We choose the gutter and downspout sizes together, because a big gutter with too little downspout capacity can still overflow.

5-inch K-style

The common residential size. It suits many single-story homes, outbuildings, and moderate roof areas, and is often paired with 2×3 downspouts, as on the Beaverton shed above.

6-inch K-style

More capacity for large roof areas, steep pitches, long runs, and valleys. It is often paired with 3×4 downspouts, which move more water, as on the two-story Beaverton home above.

What points a home toward 6-inch

  • Large roof planes on one run. A long eave below a big roof section collects more water than its length suggests.
  • Steep pitch and valleys. Both send water to one spot fast enough to overshoot or overload a smaller gutter.
  • Upper roofs shedding onto lower roofs. The lower gutter carries water from both.
  • Limited outlet locations. When a run can only drain in one or two places, extra gutter and downspout capacity helps.

More detail: when 6-inch K-style gutters make sense.

From Roof Edge to Ground

Fascia, Outlets, and Where the Water Goes

Size is only part of the job. A gutter also needs solid wood behind it, outlets in the right places, and a safe place to release the water.

Fascia and rafter tails

A gutter is only as secure as the board it is screwed into. If the fascia is soft, we recommend replacing that section before new gutter goes up. Fascia pricing is in the table below.

Drip edge and flashing

When roof water runs behind the gutter, drip edge or gutter flashing can guide it into the trough. Many roofs already have what they need, so we add it only where the roof edge calls for it.

Outlets and end caps

Every run ends in an end cap and drains through at least one outlet. These are the connections where a seamless system can still leak, so each one is sealed during installation.

Cleanouts and discharge

A downspout cleanout gives you a place to clear needles and leaves without taking the downspout apart. At the bottom, water should be carried away from the foundation. Our guide on where downspouts should drain covers the options.

Published Component Pricing

What Gutter Installation Costs

These are our current component prices, not an average-home quote. Your total depends on footage, gutter size, downspouts, corners, stories, access, removal, and the condition of the roof edge.

Reading the numbers

LF means linear foot. Gutters are measured along the roof edge, and downspouts from the gutter to the ground. For example, 180 feet of white 6-inch gutter is $1,575. Add 40 feet of 3×4 downspout at $7.00 per foot, and those two lines total $1,855. Corners, removal, cleanouts, color, and any fascia work are added from the same list.

Prices can change. The written estimate you receive shows the price for your job.

Materials and Colors

Aluminum Gutter Colors

Our residential seamless gutters are aluminum, formed on site. White is standard, and a premium finish adds a flat $300 per project, not per foot.

  • WhiteStandard
  • BlackPremium
  • BronzePremium
  • BrownPremium
  • Copper MetallicPremium

Screen colors are approximate, so we confirm your choice with physical samples where possible. Copper Metallic is a painted aluminum finish, not copper. Real copper gutters are priced by custom estimate. Looking for a color not shown here? Ask during your estimate.

How long installation takes

Many straightforward residential installations are finished in one working day. Larger rooflines, more than one structure, difficult access, or fascia repair can add time, and your estimate will say so.

On the Beaverton jobs above, the shed and downspout projects were each scheduled for a two-hour window. The full two-story system was scheduled across two days.

Optional Gutter Protection

Gutter Guards and Upkeep

Each Beaverton property on this page has trees nearby. On lots like these, adding guards while new gutters go up can reduce clogs. Open lots often see little benefit, so we recommend guards only when the debris calls for them.

Easy Lock

$6.00/LF

Non-mesh protection for leaves and larger debris on properties without heavy fine-needle drop.

LeafBlaster Pro

$10.00/LF

Stainless-steel micro-mesh, better suited to fir, cedar, and pine needles and heavily wooded lots.

Upkeep Still Matters

Guards reduce what gets into the gutter, but debris can still collect on top. Plan on periodic checks, and use downspout cleanouts to clear anything that gets through.

Common Questions

Beaverton Gutter Installation FAQs

Should I get 5-inch or 6-inch gutters?

It depends on the roof area feeding each run, the pitch, valleys, run length, and how many outlets the run can have. 5-inch K-style works on many homes and is often paired with 2×3 downspouts. 6-inch helps with large roof areas, steep pitches, long runs, and valleys, and is often paired with 3×4 downspouts. We measure before recommending either.

Are seamless gutters completely seam-free?

No. Seamless gutters are formed in continuous lengths, which removes joints along straight runs. Corners, outlets, and end caps are still connections, and each one is sealed during installation.

How much does gutter installation cost in Beaverton?

White 5-inch seamless gutter is $7.75 per linear foot and white 6-inch is $8.75 per linear foot. Downspouts are $6.50 per foot for 2×3 and $7.00 per foot for 3×4, and the minimum installation project is $450. Removal, corners, stories, access, color, and roof-edge work affect the total, which is shown in your written estimate.

How long does installation take?

Many straightforward residential installations are finished in one working day. Larger rooflines, more than one structure, difficult access, or fascia repair can take longer.

Can you replace only the downspouts?

Yes, when the gutters themselves are in good shape. One of the Beaverton projects above was a downspout-only scope: five new downspouts with cleanouts, with the existing gutters kept. 2×3 downspouts are $6.50 per foot, 3×4 are $7.00 per foot, and cleanouts are $75 each. See downspout installation for details.

What if the fascia behind my old gutters is damaged?

We show you what we found and explain the recommended repair before a new gutter covers it. Fascia replacement is $10.00 per linear foot with a $250 minimum.

Do I need gutter guards?

Not always. Guards make the most sense on lots with heavy tree cover, especially fir, cedar, or pine needles. They reduce debris entering the gutter but do not replace occasional checks. See our gutter guard installation page to compare options.
